Statesmanship

In a time when politics often feels more performative than productive, I believe we need leaders who are guided by principle, not ego or partisanship. I don’t claim to be a statesman, but I do believe in aspiring to that standard: service over self, integrity over ambition, and unity over division.

This Code of Conduct reflects the values I’m committed to as a candidate and, if elected, as your Council member. It’s not about perfection; it’s about accountability, humility, and a steady hand in public service.

1. I Serve the People, Not Myself

I hold this office as a public trust. My decisions will be guided by the long-term welfare of the community—not by personal ambition, political advantage, or private interest.

2. I Lead with Reason and Restraint

I will approach every issue with a calm mind and a clear sense of purpose. I will resist the pressure to act rashly or reactively, and I will not exploit anger or fear to gain support.

3. I Put Principles Before Politics

I will be guided by enduring values: fairness, transparency, justice, and compassion. I will not sacrifice these principles to appease a party, donor, or popular opinion.

4. I Listen First, Speak Honestly

I will listen with humility, seek diverse perspectives, and remain open to being wrong. I will speak clearly, truthfully, and respectfully—even in disagreement.

5. I Embrace Transparency and Accountability

I will explain my votes and decisions to the public. I will welcome scrutiny, correct my mistakes, and be accountable to the people above all else.

6. I Protect the Integrity of Our Institutions

I will uphold the rule of law, safeguard democratic processes, and preserve the structures of government that allow future generations to thrive.

7. I Rise Above Faction and Division

I will prioritize unity over partisanship. I will work with anyone who shares a commitment to the common good, regardless of political affiliation or background.

8. I Steward the Future, Not Just the Present

I will weigh the long-term consequences of today’s decisions. I will invest in future generations and resist the temptation to seek quick wins at their expense.

9. I Encourage Civic Engagement

I will empower residents to be informed, involved, and heard. I will treat the public not as an audience, but as essential partners in governance.

10. I Leave Office as I Entered—With Honor

Whether in service or stepping away, I will leave the office with my integrity intact, knowing I served faithfully, not flawlessly—but always with principle.
